Today I’m bringing you guys another Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip review, and this time it is for their new shade “Rooch”. I really didn’t think I’d make another purchase so soon (here’s my first Colourpop review), but I swear they’re always dropping a new must have product. Anyway, Rooch is from their KaePop Collection and retails for $6 on their website.
I was originally on Colourpop’s website in search of a blue and green lip color (which I found, and will be reviewing later this week). Unfortunately the colors I wanted were out of stock, so I was constantly checking their social media for word of when they would restock the colors I was looking for. While looking, I noticed that they were releasing a new collection that was a collaboration with Karrueche Tran.
The collection included three Ultra Matte Lips (Kae, Rooch and Chi – I thought it was cute how the names basically spell out her name) with matching lip pencils, four eyeshadows, one blush, one highlighter and a contour/bronzer. While all the items looked nice, I was most interested in the Ultra Matte Lips, particularly Rooch. The color is right up my alley (I’m obsessed brownish red colors) and it isn’t something I have already. I decided to try it because I already ordering three other lip colors and I had an opportunity to try a new product right as it launched 🙂
The first thing I noticed about Rooch is how easily it applies. With Clueless it felt more gritty when applying, while Rooch kind of glided on. While it did glide on with ease, it wasn’t so slippery like regular glosses that I had to worry about messing up the application. Since this color is dark, it is much more forgiving than lighter colors if your lips are dry (I still wouldn’t wear these without exfoliating and moisturizing my lips first).
The color is gorgeous and was actually a lot more brown than I expected, but I like it! Colourpop describes it as a “deepened russet wine”, but put more simply, it’s brown with hints of red. It actually reminds me of the Ultra Matte Lip in “LAX” or even a cross between “Avenue” and “Limbo”. It does feel a bit dry on the lips (and I used lip balm before applying), but I’ve read that applying a bit of coconut oil over it can make it feel less drying (I also use oil to remove them).
So overall I love this and will be wearing it when I go out for my birthday this week (#TeamPisces). I’m actually really happy I got this color because I’ve wanted a brownish red matte lip color for the longest time. The closest I had to this color was using NYX Round Lipstick in Alabama lined with a dark brown lip liner, which gave me more of a red color and wasn’t matte. So needless to say, I am a happy camper and will definitely be wearing this color a lot. I’ll be back later this week with the review for my other Colourpop lippies, so stay tuned 🙂
